How Can I Know Who Is A Christian?

Preacher: Rev. Neil McDonald
Readings: John 5:16-30,1 John 2:18-27

Questioned ProposalJohn’s purpose in writing his account of the Gospel was “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name”, John 20:21. In writing his first letter, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life”, 1 John 5:13.

How can we know whether we or someone else is a Christian and has eternal life? John gives us a 3 point test:

  1. Do we/they have a right belief about the person and divinity of Jesus Christ? v 22-23.
  2. Do we/they respond in discipleship to the commands of Jesus Christ? v 24.
  3. Do we/they show our love to those who also meet these three points? v 9-11.
